Let’s be honest—coming up with content ideas can feel like a full-time job. You sit down to brainstorm, but your mind goes blank, and suddenly, everything you create feels forced.
The good news? You don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you want to make a video that actually gets views.
The best-performing content isn’t always the most original; it’s often a smart remix of what’s already working. By paying attention to the content blowing up in your feed and applying a few simple strategies, you can tap into trending formats, save yourself hours of creative stress, and still create videos that feel authentic to your brand and your business.
Here’s exactly how we do it—step by step.
1. Scroll with Purpose
Step one is simple: scroll. But not the mindless kind of scrolling you do in bed to put yourself to sleep.
We’re talking about intentional scrolling. Set aside dedicated time during the day—whether it’s after your morning coffee or in between appointments—to scroll Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook with a clear purpose.
What’s the goal? Two things:
- First, pay attention to content that grabs you. What makes you laugh? What inspires you? What’s performing well? Anything that resonates with you is worth noting.
- Second, think critically about how you can adapt that content to your real estate business. Not every viral video will have an obvious real estate angle at first glance—and that’s okay. The key is saving it for later.
Create a saved folder on Instagram (or whatever platform you’re using) and start building a content library. Even if you don’t know how you’ll use a piece of content yet, save it anyway. You’ll thank yourself later.
2. Develop Your Ideas When You’re at Peak Energy
Once you’ve built a solid library of saved content, the next step is carving out time to brainstorm and develop those ideas.
This is where self-awareness comes into play. If you’re someone who can generate creative ideas at the drop of a hat, you can probably squeeze this in at the end of the day.
But if content creation drains your mental battery, don’t wait until 10 p.m. when your brain is fried. Block off some morning time, right after your coffee, when you’re firing on all cylinders. That’s when you’ll be at your creative best.
The goal during this brainstorming session is simple:
- Look at what’s happening in your real estate business right now—listings, events, market shifts.
- Go through your saved content and think, How can I apply this viral concept to what’s happening in my business today?
This is where the magic happens.
3. Timing Matters: Strike While the Trend is Hot
When you’re riding the coattails of a trending video, speed matters. The closer you can publish your version to the original trend, the better.
Here’s a real-world example:
A few days before we had a new listing hitting the market, Drake posted a viral drone video. My buddy Derrick Gregory sent it to me, immediately thinking, Krys could do something with this.
If you haven’t seen Drake’s video, it features a drone flying into his home, capturing him placing bets on his laptop.
It was the perfect fit for our upcoming listing launch party. We copied the drone shot and added a custom twist—showing the drone flying past a poster with the party details and ending with me literally throwing a shoe at the drone to chase it out of the house.
The video worked because:
- It was easy to make—we already use FPV drones for our listing videos.
- It was a one-take video—minimal time, minimal editing.
4. Use the Tools You Already Have
You don’t need fancy equipment or a massive production budget. The Drake-inspired video worked because we used tools we already had—an FPV drone and a listing we needed to promote.
That’s the formula:
- See what’s trending
- Use your existing tools and resources
- Adapt it to your business
Most viral trends aren’t highly polished productions anyway. Many of the videos dominating your feed are simple, shot-on-iPhone clips. The production value is low—but the creativity (or relatability) is high.
5. Follow the Formula, Not Just the Trend
Another example: we had a listing where we recreated the viral Postmates/Krispy Kreme delivery video shot-for-shot.
We didn’t reinvent the wheel. We literally played the original video, copied the angles, matched the dialogue (with a real estate twist), and boom—we had our own version.
- In the original, the door opens to a POV shot? We did the same.
- In the original, the delivery guy places the food on the table? Ours did, too.
- In the original, there’s a line about leaving a tip? We kept that, but used it to plug details about the listing.
The end result looks creative, but the truth is: we followed a proven formula. And you can do the same.
6. Inspiration Is Everywhere—If You’re Paying Attention
The beauty of this process is that you don’t have to constantly dream up new ideas from scratch. The internet is overflowing with viral concepts you can adapt for your real estate business.
The key is to:
- Scroll with purpose.
- Save the good stuff.
- Work on ideas when you’re at your creative best.
- Act fast when a trend aligns with your business.
- Use the tools and resources you already have.
