Would you stop scrolling for your own opening line?
“I’m here at…”
“I wanted to jump on…”
“Today we’re going to talk about…”
Those introductions feel natural when you’re filming, but they make viewers wait for the point. Strong hooks reverse the order. They lead with the person, surprise or payoff before explaining the rest.
Cue Spokane real estate agent Alyssa Curnutt, the queen of hyperlocal content, who’s made strong video hooks part of her playbook. Nailing that first line is kind of her thing.
Her framework is simple to apply, with every hook falling into one of three categories:
- Audience call-out
- Curiosity-based
- Value-driven
When you know which one you’re using, it gets a lot easier to create videos people actually stick around long enough to watch.
Below are 45 hooks you can customize for your market, organized by category.
If you want the full system behind the hooks, Alyssa’s complete hyperlocal content course is available inside BAMx. And starting this month, she’s hosting live monthly sessions for BAMx members, breaking down what’s working and helping agents apply it in their own markets.
Audience Call-Out Hooks
Audience call-out hooks immediately identify who the video is for.
When someone hears their lifestyle, location or current situation in the first sentence, the content feels relevant before they have even processed the rest of the video.
Sharran Srivatsaa has referred to this as the “dog whistle” hook because it is designed to attract the attention of a specific group.
Creating content for a smaller, more specific audience can feel counterintuitive, especially when everyone is chasing views. But thousands of random views won’t do much for your business if none of those viewers think, This agent understands people like me.
Here’s an example from Alyssa:

The goal isn’t simply to reach more people. It is to become recognizable and relevant to the right people.

Curiosity-Based Hooks
Some videos earn attention by making viewers feel like they are about to discover something.
You’re not giving everything away in the first sentence. You’re opening a loop that makes someone think, Wait, what is that? or How did I not know this was here?
Here’s how Alyssa used curiosity to introduce a new restaurant:

Value-Driven Hooks
Sometimes people aren’t scrolling for entertainment. They’re trying to decide where to eat, what to do this weekend or which part of town makes sense for their lifestyle.
Value-driven hooks lead with the outcome. The viewer should immediately understand what they will gain by watching.
Instead of starting with, “I’m here today at a new restaurant,” get directly to the useful part:
Here’s a spot you need for your next date night.
That opening gives the viewer a reason to save the video, send it to someone or keep watching.
Here’s an example from Alyssa (one that helps parents score big with their kids):

Think about the decisions people in your market are already trying to make:
- Where should we go this weekend?
- What can we do with the kids?
- Where can I get a good workout?
- Which coffee shop is best for working remotely?
- What neighborhood would fit our lifestyle?
- Where should we take someone visiting from out of town?
Answer those questions consistently, and you become more than another agent posting market updates. You become a useful local resource.

How to Choose the Right Hook
A strong hook isn’t just a clever sentence pasted onto the beginning of a random video. The hook, subject and audience need to work together.
Before filming, ask yourself three questions:
- Who is this video for? If the answer is a clearly defined group, start with an audience call-out.
- What makes this interesting? If the subject is new, surprising or unexpected, use curiosity.
- What will someone get from watching? If the video helps viewers make a decision, lead with value.
You can also combine categories.
For example:
Parents in [City], I found one of the easiest weekend wins for the whole family.
That hook calls out a specific audience and promises useful information.
Just don’t overload the opening. The hook should sound like something you would naturally say to another person.
A Better Hook Won’t Fix an Inconsistent Content Strategy
The opening line matters, but it is still only one part of a complete hyperlocal content strategy.
You also need timely and relevant topics, local sources, a repeatable creation process and enough consistency for people in your market to recognize you.
BAMx gives agents a three-step system for creating better hyperlocal content, starting more conversations online and doing it consistently.
1. Get Customizable Hyperlocal Content Every Friday
Every week, BAMx members receive fresh content ideas that are easy to customize for their own markets and turn into posts.
You don’t have to start with a blank content calendar or spend hours trying to figure out what people might care about.
2. Learn From People Who Are Actually Doing It
BAMx members get live monthly sessions with The Broke Agent and, starting this month, hyperlocal queen Alyssa Curnutt.
Alyssa’s complete hyperlocal course is also available inside BAMx, giving members the strategy and step-by-step framework behind the content she creates.
3. Turn What’s Happening in Your Market Into Content With AI
The BAMx Hyperlocal Content AI tool finds timely, relevant stories in your market and helps turn them into ready-to-use content.
You can find sources and generate scripts in a few clicks, giving you a faster path from I should post something to content that is ready to film.
The goal is simple: Never sit down wondering what to post again.
