In just two months, it will officially be the ten-year anniversary of The Broke Agent

My journey started in January 2015 with a single Twitter post. I screenshotted it, shared it on Facebook and Instagram (already diversifying platforms!), and set out on a journey I never could have predicted. Back then, my logo was a picture of a dilapidated house, and I had no clue where this brand was headed. My only goal was to make myself—and others—laugh amidst the struggles of the emotional rollercoaster that is selling real estate.

Here are some prime examples of the brilliance that was pouring out of my brain back then.

Over the years, The Broke Agent has evolved in ways I never imagined. At first, I envisioned it as a sort of “Funny or Die” for real estate, filled with comedic sketches and funny blogs.

Then I thought, Why not make it an animated show?

I imagined something like Family Guy or South Park but with a more Curb Your Enthusiasm vibe of course. But once I realized how absurdly expensive animation was, I shifted gears and went old school, writing a cartoon book called Commission Impossible: Rogue Agent

PSA: trying to become the Garfield of real estate is not profitable. In fact, comic book sales is probably the least profitable thing you can do in real estate. By the way, the book is still on Amazon. Please don’t buy it. I’m pretty sure I lose money every time someone does (I’ve sold 10 copies).

In 2020, the pandemic hit and forced a temporary pause in my real estate career—or what was left of it. That pause turned out to be a blessing, as it pushed me to go all-in on the brand instead of doing this half-and-half thing that hadn’t worked for five years. I spent those months posting like a madman, writing blogs, building an email list, and launching a podcast. These efforts became the foundation of a media company and what The Broke Agent would eventually grow into.
In April 2022, I partnered with Byron Lazine to launch Broke Agent Media, now BAM Media. This partnership has transformed BAM into the kind of media company I wish had existed when I was an active agent. Today, I’m writing this blog to express my gratitude for how we got here.

What I’m Thankful For

1. Our Community

First and foremost, I’m thankful for all of you—the followers and supporters of this brand. Whether you read our blogs, listen to our podcasts, attend webinars or events, engage with our posts, or simply follow along silently, thank you. You make BAM a part of your life, and we don’t take that for granted. With so much content competing for your attention, we’re honored you turn to us in some capacity. Our goal is to help you filter through the bull shit in this industry and keep you informed and entertained.

2. Our Creators

I’m incredibly grateful for every creator who collaborates with us. Whether it’s contributing to a post, speaking at an event, writing a blog, hosting or guesting on a podcast, or collabing on a green-screen video, you are the driving force of BAM’s content. We couldn’t do this without you  and I truly appreciate you choosing our platform to share your content and use your voice.

3. Our BAMx Members and BAM Mania Attendees

This year, we brought the BAM community to life with our first in-person event: BAM Mania. Seeing everything come together in Vegas was magical. To everyone who booked a room, flew out, and trusted us to deliver an amazing event—thank you. BAM events will be a huge part of our future, so stay tuned for BAM Mania II!

Also, BAMx members, get ready for what we’re rolling out next year. If you aren’t a member yet, you’ll want to take advantage of our Black Friday sale. (Pro tip: If you’re reading this blog, you can access it a day early here.)

4. Our Sponsors

I’m thankful for the partners who choose to work with us, trusting our creative process to position their brands authentically. Unlike other media companies who rely on banner ads or generic email blasts, we build relationships with our sponsors to ensure they gain real visibility and conversions through the unique ability to connect with our audience. We only promote products and services that we use ourselves, and I’m excited to strengthen these partnerships.

5. Byron Lazine

This pains me to write this…but I’m thankful for my partner, Byron Lazine. He took a chance on me and The Broke Agent and went all-in on BAM. This guy has a family, runs the #1 real estate team in Connecticut, and certainly didn’t have to do this. But like me, he believes in the vision of where we are headed, and for that, I’m forever grateful.

6. Our BAM Team

We’re small, but we work our asses off. From our writers to our video editors to our creative director, thank you for trusting the process and putting in maximum effort with everything we do. The audience only sees the finished product—they don’t see the hours spent on thumbnails, titles, edits, research, and publishing. The attention to detail you all pour into every piece of content is what separates us from other media companies and is why we have so much momentum after just two years.

7. The Real Estate Community

Finally, I’m thankful for the real estate community as a whole. Thank you for embracing this brand and for supporting its evolution from meme page to media company. We’re just getting started!

Have a great Thanksgiving! If you need some talking points for the dinner table, check out this.
