I just ended my Walk Thru Podcast after 200 episodes.

In case you never watched or listened, I co-hosted it every single Thursday for FOUR years with Dan Oneil and Jason Cassity, talking real estate marketing, social media, and what’s actually working for agents every single week.

It was a pillar BAM show and became a go-to platform to showcase agents and break down exactly what was working on social media that week, while platforming new creators in the industry doing something unique in marketing.

I had a blast doing it, and it was a really tough decision to end. But here’s why it had to happen.

#1: It Lived on BAM’s YouTube Channel

Which is mainly real estate news:

  • The Real Word podcast
  • Real estate news livestreams
  • Housing market talk (Hot Sheet)

From a strictly YouTube perspective, it was FOOLISH to have a marketing show on the same channel because the algorithm had no idea what to do with it.

We had the channel going in too many different directions, serving too many different audiences, which made it harder for people to know why they should subscribe.

The Walk Thru audience was completely different from Byron Lazine’s Real Word audience, so they were skipping every other show. This limits subscriber growth, views, and confuses new listeners as to who and what they’re getting from the channel.

The lesson here is, if you start a YouTube channel, don’t flood it with too many different types of content. People should know exactly what sort of topics they are going to get.

Make it easy for them to subscribe.

#2: What I Want To Do for Marketing Content

I want to do more high-quality, how-to videos focused on ONE topic.

The Walk Thru originally started as more of a real estate news show, with the intention of having two guests and a co-host covering trending topics in real estate.

But that already exists with The Real Word, so we shifted it to marketing only.

Now I’m taking that a step further and starting my own channel focused on one thing with three specific focal points:

  1. Social media
  2. Marketing
  3. AI how-to’s for agents

#3: Sometimes You Just Gotta Pivot.

If you’ve been doing something for a while that isn’t growing, converting, or lighting you up anymore, whether it’s in marketing, business, or real estate, you need to cut it loose, even if it’s become routine.

I loved doing the show, but if I’m being honest, it didn’t have the same spark it had when it first started. We started having a lot of the same guests (who were great) and were covering a lot of the same topics (Instagram strategy).

You should never do something just because you’ve been doing it forever or because it’s become routine. If something isn’t working, you gotta drop it and pivot.

That’s what has really made BAM and The Broke Agent successful.

#4: The Format Was Not Conducive.

It’s hard to host a show that is guest-dependent. If you start a podcast, don’t build one around four people.

The intention of this show was to walk you through the week in real estate marketing with rotating guests, but the format didn’t really match what people want from a marketing video.

What people want is ONE thing. One takeaway.

  • How to get more views on your IG Stories
  • How to show up in search in ChatGPT
  • How to generate leads from local content.

Not three or four topics with FOUR people. That style works better for a news show or debate show, but when the filter is marketing, it’s hard to find four BREAKING social media tips.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri can only launch new features every so often, and I really want to spend 10 to 15 minutes deep diving on ONE topic.

#5: My Co-Host Became the Chief Growth Officer of REAL.

Jason Cassity, who I’ve known for over a decade and basically grew up with in this industry, landed one of the biggest jobs in real estate.

Because of that, co-hosting a weekly show about Instagram might not be top priority anymore. As it shouldn’t be! He will still be a frequent guest on the new channel, and he was an amazing co-host. I’m so proud of him for landing this role. He’s going to crush it.

So what’s next?

First, I’m having a baby, so that’s basically happening next week.

But after that, it’s my own channel. The Broke Agent channel.

On it, I’ll be doing more monologue-style, how-to videos with one focus. Very specific, helpful content for agents and, honestly, anyone outside of real estate. I’ll still host people and bring on unique voices in real estate who have something to share.

But that will be more “SHOW me exactly what you’re doing that’s working” instead of getting their commentary on certain topics.

For example, next week Tessabella gives me a 20-minute lesson on Claude Projects. I feel like I’m learning with the audience, which I’m excited about.

Also, I want to emphasize that IG strategy might not be the number one focus.

Right now, we are seeing a lot of interest in how AI can enhance social media output and engagement, and the old Walk Thru format is not fit for stop, screen share, and teach.

You can’t just talk about AI strategy. You have to actually show it. That’s what will happen on The Broke Agent channel.

So the new channel will have three core content pillars.

  1. Straight-to-camera how-to’s where I show what’s working, what’s not, and real examples.
  2. One-on-one deep dives where a guest shows me exactly what’s working. Not a 45-minute episode. More like 10 to 15 minutes on one specific strategy.
  3. Audits. We’re going to pull some of our BAMx member content where I audit profiles, posts, hooks, bios, and content strategy, then cut those into shorter tactical videos.

Excited for this next chapter of content. Reinvigoration and pivoting is always fun.

I loved The Walk Thru. Loved all the guests, my co-hosts, the listeners and everything about it. But it’s time to try something new.
