Imagine potential clients scrolling through endless feeds. Because that’s the reality today for anyone on social media. And with all the real estate professionals on Instagram, it’s more critical than ever to know how to make your posts stand out.

If you don’t grab your audience’s attention in the first 3-5 seconds, they’re not going to engage with your content—especially when they’ve got so many other posts vying for their attention.

So, how do you stand out and stop the scroll? Two words: powerful hooks!

Think of a hook as a captivating first line that reels viewers in and makes them want to see more.

A strong hook in a social media post makes it impossible for your ideal viewer to scroll past it. And once they’re done engaging with your post, they’re more likely to pause and pay attention when they spot another post from you.

They’re also more inclined to visit your profile and see what else you’ve got.

So, in a nutshell, what can a strong hook do for your real estate content?

  • Cut through the noise
  • Spark curiosity
  • Highlight your expertise
  • Drive engagement

All good things. So, if you’re ready to grow your following and get more leads from your social media content, read on for 15 field-tested hooks you can use right now!

15 Hooks to steal for real estate content that stops the scroll

I’ve broken down the list into four specific categories:

  • Problem/solution hooks
  • Intrigue and curiosity hooks
  • Local focus hooks
  • Negative hooks

I’ve added three more bonus hooks for a total of 15. And because you’ll probably create more than 15 posts for your social media channels, I’m adding four critical tips to keep in mind when crafting hooks of your own.

Read on and then pick one and get started!

Problem/Solution Hooks:

  1. “Feeling overwhelmed by the homebuying process? Here’s my step-by-step guide.”
  2. “Scared of making costly mistakes when selling your home? Here’s how I can help.”
  3. “First-time homebuyer? Here are the 3 things NOBODY tells you.”

Intrigue and Curiosity Hooks:

  1. “Myth vs Fact: Homebuying Edition”
  2. “This common mistake could be costing you thousands when selling your home.”
  3. “This is the CRAZIEST bidding war I’ve ever seen (Spoiler: It has a happy ending!)”

Local Focus Hooks:

  1. “Hidden gems you DIDN’T know existed in [Your City].”
  2. “Top 5 most walkable neighborhoods in [Your City].”
  3. “Is the housing market booming in [Your City]? Swipe for market update insights.”

Negative Hooks:

  1. “Stop skipping this step when prepping your home to sell.”
  2. “Don’t forget to ask this question when touring potential homes.”
  3. “Sellers/Buyers: Avoid these 3 common mistakes.”

Bonus Hooks:

  1. “If I could go back in time and tell myself one thing before I bought my first home, it would be this.”
  2. “Here’s a story about when I [INSERT embarrassing/shocking moment].”
  3. “5 Things I wish I knew about ____ sooner.”

Best Practices for Creating Hooks

Here are those tips to keep in mind when crafting your own hooks:

  • Keep it short and sweet (under five seconds for Reels).
  • Use emojis to add personality and visual interest.
  • End with a call to action (swipe, like, comment, message)
  • Tailor your hooks to your target audience and brand voice.

Which of the hooks listed here grabs your attention? And how would you modify one of them to better reach your target audience?
