Social media is a fantastic way to build relationships with people you don’t know yet and eventually do business together.

The key is to make meaningful connections, attract the right kind of people, and make them feel like they already know and trust you by the time they meet you in person.

But what kind of content should you create to accomplish that? I’m glad you asked!

Here are three questions to ask yourself to help you strengthen your social media connections:

“WHY WOULD SOMEONE WANT TO WORK WITH ME?”

What makes you special or sets you apart from the crowd? Do you have expertise in a specific area? A unique perspective or a natural ability to make people laugh? Are you the type who advocates for your clients and goes above and beyond the bare minimum?

Highlight your strengths and unique value proposition through content that showcases your personality and knowledge. Whether it’s a fun video, a thoughtful blog post, or an engaging story, let people see why you’re worth their time. Authenticity is your not-so-secret weapon—people are naturally drawn to genuine, relatable people.

“HOW CAN I BRING VALUE INTO THEIR LIVES?”

In a world where Google can answer almost anything, aim to be more than just an information source. Share stories from your real estate experiences that help educate, share a story of how you helped a client through a tough or unexpected situation, provide practical tips or offer solutions to common problems. And don’t gatekeep—share your knowledge freely. The more value you provide, the more people will trust and engage with you.

“WHO DO I WANT TO SERVE AND HOW CAN I HELP THEM?”

Understanding who you want to serve is so important. Think back to your favorite transactions—who were the clients that made your work enjoyable, rewarding and brought you joy? Who do you genuinely love helping? Talk specifically to these people. Tailor your content to address their specific needs, interests, and challenges. Engage with them by asking questions, responding to comments, and showing genuine interest in their stories. This approach will help you build a loyal community that feels personally connected to you.

Using social media to build relationships isn’t about endless self-promotion. It’s about making real connections, providing value, and fostering trust. By focusing on showing what makes you special or different, bringing value into your audience’s lives, and understanding who you want to serve, you’ll create the perfect content to attract the right people and create meaningful connections that can lead to lasting relationships.
