Instagram now lets you add a different caption to each slide of a carousel post.

The feature is live worldwide, and each caption updates automatically as followers swipe through.

Instagram growth coach Brock Johnson, one of the go-to voices on growing an audience on Instagram, broke down the update in a recent carousel post, including how to turn it on and four ways to put it to work.

Carousels are already the highest-engagement format on Instagram, outperforming Reels every quarter since 2023.

This update makes them even more useful.

How the New Per-Slide Caption Feature Works

When you post a carousel, you’ll now see a toggle labeled “Multiple Captions.” Turn it on, and you can write a separate caption for each photo or video in the post. Followers see the corresponding caption update automatically as they swipe through.

The Instagram @creators account posted this carousel on the update, walking users through the details using short instructions with visuals:

In Johnson’s post, he notes the feature has been in testing for several months and was just officially announced as a worldwide rollout.

Here’s how to turn it on:

  1. Open Instagram and start a new carousel post
  2. Select your photos or videos
  3. Look for the “Multiple Captions” toggle in the posting flow
  4. Turn it on and add a unique caption to each slide

Captions update automatically as followers swipe.

If you haven’t seen the toggle yet, make sure your app is updated to the latest version of Instagram.

How Agents Can Use It

Johnson laid out four ways to use per-slide captions, and all four translate directly to real estate content.

  • Add context to a specific slide that needs it. Drop the explanation in that slide’s caption instead of burying it in the main caption.
  • Hide a message for followers who swipe all the way through. A bonus tip or exclusive offer rewards engagement and gives people a reason to keep going.
  • Place your CTA on the last slide. By the time someone reaches the end, they’ve already engaged. That’s the right moment to ask them to do something.
  • Tell a multi-part story through the captions and use your slides as photo-only visuals. Post clean images with no text overlaid and let the captions carry the narrative.

Your next listing carousel is a good place to test this.

Use the main caption for the hook, add neighborhood or property details on individual slides, and save your call to action for the last frame.

Here are some examples for real estate carousels:

  • Walk-thru carousel: one slide per room (photo or video), with captions providing details specific to each room
  • Hyperlocal carousel: one slide per local business, hot spot, or event (photo or video), with a caption for each one
  • Buyer education carousel: one slide per lending/financing option, with captions providing additional info for each
  • Carousel with CTA: a final slide with a caption providing a CTA keyword that triggers a Manychat automation

Your next carousel post is already sitting in your camera roll. Now you have one more tool to make it work harder.
