Shay Noonan posted a twist on the “This or That” trend and racked up dozens of comments and over 500 likes from viewers who couldn’t scroll past.
The twist? Shay and her husband (and fellow Realtor) Bryan had their daughter answer the questions for a “Scottsdale Kid Edition.” And her answers created one of the most memorable pieces of hyperlocal content we’ve seen this summer.
So, what makes this “kid edition” trendjack work as hyperlocal content for agents?
Read on for a quick breakdown, plus some ideas you can try yourself (even if you don’t have kids).

Why This Reel Works
“This or That” is a format people recognize before the video even starts. Nobody needs the joke explained, and there’s no learning curve for whoever’s watching.
Filming it takes a phone and a few minutes. No script. No editing timeline. Easy.
Featuring a real family member instead of a listing photo or a market stat makes the agent memorable.
Harlow explained her ice cream pick like this:
“Handel’s because it has a lot of flavors and my favorite flavor there is cotton candy.”
It’s a small answer. It’s also real, and real is what sticks in a feed full of polished AI content.
Every choice in the reel points to a real spot in Scottsdale: Handel’s, Odysea Aquarium, Scottsdale Fashion Square, and the drive to San Diego. Tagging those businesses puts the reel in front of their followers too, on top of Shay’s own audience.
Harlow made her case for the aquarium over the zoo with one plain reason:
“I like the aquarium because it’s inside, because Arizona is really hot.”
The caption does the same job as the video, in fewer words. Shay set up the whole idea with one line:
“Don’t listen to adults, here are the kid-approved choices for life in Scottsdale.”
Then she closes with one simple ask, a heart or a comment. Nothing complicated, nothing that asks for much from someone scrolling past.
A few things we noticed, too, that deserve to be pointed out here:
- No one left only a heart. Everyone who commented stopped to add a few words.
- Shay engaged with most of the comments on the day the reel went live.
How to Build Your Own Version
None of this needs a video team or a big budget. Here’s how to put together your own version.
Steps to create one:
- Pick a rapid-fire format that’s easy to answer on camera, like this or that, first choice, or rank these
- Choose a real person to feature. If you have a young relative who’s comfortable being on camera, ask them if they’d like to be your star for a day.
- Write four to six either-or questions tied to real local spots or experiences
- Film it in one take and keep it under a minute
- Tag every business or location mentioned
- Write a caption with one simple ask: a heart, a comment, or a share
Even if you don’t have a willing young relative, there are other ways you can adapt this trendjack to your situation.
Maybe feature a pet instead of a kid, especially if said pet can indicate their preference for one image or representative object over another.
Or ask a recent client if their child would be willing to take on the role for a client spotlight version, which also doubles as a soft testimonial.
You could also recruit a niece or nephew, a godchild, or a friend’s kid who’s already comfortable on camera.
Whoever you enlist as your reel’s subject, here are some examples to try:
- This or That, neighborhood edition: comparing two local coffee shops or parks
- Team member edition: rapid-fire favorite listing features or closing day traditions
- Client family edition: featuring a recent buyer’s local picks
- Seasonal edition: best patio in summer versus winter
- New agent edition: favorite local coffee shop or local diner versus a chain
And speaking of Scottsdale…it’s also where BAM Camp: Team Leaders happens this year, September 22 and 23, 2026. This one is built for a specific kind of team leader: $20M to $100M+ teams ready to scale. It’s also for operators ready to step out of the weeds and run their team like a real business.
This is a closed-room workshop with a limited number of spots, built around practitioners walking through the systems they use in their own businesses.
If you lead a team doing $20 million or more and want the systems to scale past $100 million, BAM Camp Team Leaders is where to find them.
Tickets are selling fast, so save your spot here.
