Instagram has introduced a new feature: you can now add notes to posts and reels.

When viewing someone’s content, a pop-up saying “share a thought with friends” appears. This is where you can add a note. It looks like this:

Key Points to Remember

Of course, there are a few things to keep in mind when using this new feature. This first is that only your friends or people you follow back can see these notes.

Your note pops up right under the caption of that person’s reel, which increases the visibility of your profile to that person’s followers. It looks like this:

In addition, the duration of this new feature is limited. Notes expire in 3 days.

So, why share a note on a post or reel? This feature encourages private interactions, similar to DMing with friends. Writing a note can help your friends discover new pieces of content.

Should Real Estate Agents Use This Feature?

Absolutely. It’s always beneficial to use new Instagram features as the platform often rewards early adopters with increased visibility.

Content creators like Julia Broome believe this feature is designed to boost engagement beyond just shares.

How Can We Use This in Our Real Estate Business?

We know that using Instagram’s newest features can help get your content in front of more people (at least in the short term).

But, it’s also important to ensure how you use the features makes sense for your business. Here are a few ways to use these new features as a real estate agent:

  1. Network with Local Businesses: Comment on posts from local businesses or community events with valuable, specific comments related to the content.
  2. Consistently Stay in Touch: When past clients share photos in their homes, comment on their posts and add a note like, “So happy to see you enjoying your home! Thank you for trusting me with your real estate journey.”
  3. Engage with Larger Accounts to Increase Followers: Take the time to engage with larger local accounts, such as popular food accounts or other well-followed profiles. Set up alerts for these accounts’ posts, and as soon as they post something, add a note quickly. This way, you can get in front of their followers and potentially gain more followers yourself, as all of their followers will see your note.
Start testing out these new features this week, and let me know what type of results you see!
