Let’s talk about the most powerful (and most overlooked) growth tactic for real estate agents on Instagram in 2025. They’re called Trial Reels, and they might be the fastest way to test your content, reach new audiences, and generate real estate leads in 2025.

If you’re still sitting on the sidelines, posting the occasional reel here and there and expecting local followers and leads to roll in, I hate to say it, but you’re not serious about growth.

Trial Reels are the secret to data-driven creativity: fast insights, low stress, and high growth potential.

Let’s break down what they are, why they work, and exactly how to use them.

Stick around until the end. I’ll give you 5 Trial Reels you can post this week to boost reach instantly.

Step 1: Understand What Trial Reels Actually Are

Trial Reels are Instagram’s way of quietly testing your content across micro-audiences. When you toggle on the “Trial Reel” option, Instagram pushes your video to a fresh group of users and watches how they engage, without notifying your existing followers.

If your content hits, Instagram scales it further.

What Trial Reels Do for Your Growth

Here’s what makes Trial Reels so powerful:

  • Reach people outside your follower list
  • Break out of 200-view jail (hello visibility!)
  • Build strong performance data to guide future content
  • Test hooks and formats before putting ad spend behind them
  • Train the algorithm on who you want to attract (buyers, sellers, relocators)

When this feature was first introduced, we could just take our top-performing reels and repost, repost, repost over and over again in order to reach new people.

Unfortunately, Meta caught on and cracked down on this approach, so I’ve outlined a fresh new workflow for you on how to use them for growth in a way that makes the algorithm love you.

Step 2: Execute the New Trial Reel Workflow

Here’s how to execute Trial Reels like a pro:

  1. Film One Base Reel (B-Roll):
    • Walk through a neighborhood
    • Sip coffee at a local café
    • Tour a listing
  2. Duplicate it inside Instagram’s Edits App:
    • Create 5–6 versions from one video
    • Use minor tweaks to multiply reach
  3. Change the Following:
    • Hook text (the first 3–6 seconds)
    • Audio (trending + under 10k uses)
    • Captions
    • Clip length
  4. Use ChatGPT to Generate Variations:
    • 5–10 Hook options
    • 3–5 Caption options
  5. Post With “Trial Reel” Enabled:
    • Don’t overthink it, let the algorithm do its thing

Step 3: Nail the Hook Formula

Use the structure: “POV: You want to…”

Examples:

  • “POV: You want to move to Scottsdale but have no idea where to start”
  • “POV: You just landed your dream job in Phoenix and need to buy fast

This formula triggers emotional relevance, curiosity, and conversion.

Step 4: Turn Views Into Conversations

Pair each trial reel with a comment keyword CTA:

  • “Want my relocation checklist? Comment ‘MOVE’ and I’ll DM you.”

Use automation tools (like ManyChat) or respond manually. Either way, these are the kinds of comments that convert into warm conversations.

Step 5: 3 Viral Boost Pro Tips

  1. Use trending local audio. Under 10K uses, <7 days old comments
  2. Re-upload your top-performing Reels monthly. Not the Trial Reels, just your hits
  3. Post 3–5 Trial Reels/week. Swap hook, caption, and audio for max variety

Step 6: Start Posting with these 5 Trial Reel Ideas

Ready to start? Try one (or all) of these:

1. What You Can Get for $X in [Your City]

  • Combine 3–4 property photos or short clips
  • Add text: “Here’s what $500K buys in [Your City] in 2025”
  • Finish with: “Which one would you choose?”

Why it works: People love seeing what their money can buy. This kind of Reel gets shared with friends and saved by buyers.

2. “This is a trial reel….”

Try this sample script:

“This is a trial reel, so I know you’re not following me. But you should follow along if you need a [City Name] local, non-pushy Realtor that knows the best houses and local restaurants.”

  • Short clip (ideally of you)
  • Fill in the blanks in the text above

Why it works: It’s what I like to call ‘call out content’ that calls out the fact that they aren’t following you yet and piques their curiosity!!

Watch an example from @kksellstn here.

3.  PLEASE ROAST ME

“Please roast me…I’ve been stuck at the same amount of followers for a year now. What’s wrong with my account?? (This is a trial reel, so I know you’re not following me!)”

  • Short clip (ideally of you)
  • Fill in the blanks in the text above, or rewrite it slightly and make it relevant to you and your brand

Why it works: People love to share their opinions, so this controversial hook makes them stop their scroll, and click on your profile. Leading to a boost in engagement, some feedback, and maybe even some new followers!

4. How You Help

  • Share how your content helps or what you do to help other people, and invite them to follow you, connect with you, or join your audience.
  • Describe who you are and how you add value and who you’re looking for

Here’s an example:

“I’m a Scottsdale local sharing my true, unfiltered opinions about what it’s like to live here, and I’m looking for other AZ people to connect with, follow and share our favorite local spots! If that’s you… comment below”

Why it works: a direct call to action that discusses specifically what kind of value you add to your audience and invites them to connect with you or comment. A great audience builder!!

5. Remix Local Content with Your POV

  • Find a popular Reel from a local business (think: @FSScottsdale)
  • Tap “Remix” and add your hook: “This is what you get to enjoy when you live in North Scottsdale…”
  • Tag the business and drop a value-driven caption

Why it works: You’re borrowing high-quality video, layering on your brand voice, and showing you know your market.

Final Thoughts

This feature may not be around forever.

But right now, Trial Reels are the most effective, scalable, and free way to:

  • Grow your local following
  • Build top-of-mind awareness
  • Generate real estate leads at scale

So if you’re still not using Trial Reels, let’s call it what it is. You’re not stuck. You’re stalling.

Post one of these Reels this week. Then DM me and tell me which one popped!

Your next viral post (and your next client) might be one Trial Reel away.
