After nearly a year of writing BAM articles and sending them to my email list every Monday, I’ve decided to stop writing these blog posts.

Just kidding! Just wanted to make sure you were paying attention.

But seriously, after nearly a year of crafting these articles, I’ve gained valuable insights into what works well with email marketing. So today, I’m sharing the top six tips you need to know to boost your email open rate and click rate.

Subject Lines are Crucial

We all know that email subject lines are crucial—but just how important are they?

Email subject lines determine whether an email gets opened or ignored. In my opinion, too many Realtors focus heavily on the body of their email content, while overlooking the importance of compelling subject lines. Remember, without a captivating subject line, even the best email content goes unnoticed.

Tip 1: Pay Attention to the First 2-3 Words

The first two to three words in your subject line are so important. Most people don’t read the full subject line, they only scan their inbox and then decide which emails to open. So, be sure to put the most impactful words first.

Tip 2: Use Numbers for a Sense of Authority

Start with a number for a sense of authority.

For example:

Tip 3: Don’t Sleep on Emojis

Add relevant emojis to your email subject lines.

For example:

  • 3 Essential Documents Every Home Seller Needs to Prepare 😟

It’s important to note that while emojis can increase engagement, avoid overusing them as they may become too obnoxious. Instead, sprinkle them in occasionally to add a touch of fun.

Tip 4: Utilize Brackets

Emphasizing key ideas with brackets adds a compelling touch to your subject lines.

For example, consider:

  • [Exclusive Sneak Peek]: My Luxury Condo in the Heart of History

This technique not only highlights what you’re promoting but also creates a sense of exclusivity, giving readers a sneak peek behind the scenes.

How Are You Standing Out?

When creating your subject lines, it’s crucial to ask: How do I stand out from the crowd?

I strive for originality in my subject lines to illicit clicks and responses. For instance, when Meta shut down last week, I turned to my email list and created a subject line that read: “IG is Down. Shit. 😱”

In the email body, I took the opportunity to discuss the importance of growing your email list, linking a recent Walk Thru episode where I highlighted email power compared to Instagram followers.

Tip 5: Use FOMO

Utilize urgency and FOMO in your subject lines to build curiosity and drive more opens. This tactic promotes action through a deadline.

For example:

  • Why Waiting for Lower Interest Rates Could Cost You Your Dream Home

Tip 6: Call to Action Buttons are Key

In the body of your email, make sure you are using call-to-action buttons instead of generic “click here” buttons.

Some examples of CTA buttons you can use include:

  • Find My Dream Home
  • Connect with Lindsey
  • Find Out What My Home Is Worth

Bonus Tips to Ensure Your Audience is Getting What They Want

Bonus Tip 1: Segment Your Email Lists

Segmenting your email list is key to effectively targeting your audience. With 44 different segments, I tailor my emails to match each group’s interests. For instance, I have a segment for Realtor prom attendees and another for past clients. This ensures I send relevant content to each group and avoid potential unsubscribes.

Bonus Tip 2: Split Test Your Subject Lines

Send two versions of the same email with different subject lines to two separate email segments. Monitor the results for about an hour, then send the better-performing subject line to your entire list. This allows you to optimize engagement based on real-time feedback.

With these strategies, you’ll elevate your email marketing game and connect more effectively with your audience.
