Did you know that National Neighbor Day was September 28th? We didn’t either.
But to celebrate, Neighbor.com released its annual ranking of the “Most Neighborly Cities in America.”
If your market made the list, this makes for some fun and lighthearted information to share with consumers.
The #1 Most Neighborly City in America
Neighbor.com surveyed 1,000 Americans to determine the factors that define neighborliness. The results emphasized the importance of community engagement, volunteer participation, charitable contributions and civic involvement.
Based on these metrics, Neighbor.com identified the top city for fostering connections and building strong communities: Colorado Springs.
Colorado Springs has not only claimed the title of the top medium-sized metro but also ranks as the overall winner for 2024. The city’s community spirit is evident in its packed event calendar, high volunteerism rates, and impressive voter turnout. Mayor Yemi Mobolade attributes the city’s success to initiatives like the “1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings,” which encourage residents to build stronger connections through casual hangouts and block parties.
“Strong communities are built on the foundation of connectedness,” said Mayor Mobolade. “We are on a mission to create a city of great neighbors, addressing loneliness by fostering real, meaningful relationships.”

Why Neighborliness Matters in 2024
As more people prioritize local connections over the fast pace of social media and divisive narratives, these cities are setting the standard for what it means to build meaningful relationships with those around us.
“Despite the divisive narratives we often hear, Americans are actually craving and creating stronger local communities. We’re witnessing a real-world comeback of neighborliness, especially during this election season when loneliness and division seem to be on the rise.”
This year’s rankings highlight that neighborliness isn’t just about location—it’s about action. Whether through volunteerism, charitable giving, or simply supporting local events, these cities are paving the way for more neighborly cities.
