Along with leading a top-producing Orange County team, Robert Mack is an Ironman triathlete who swims with sharks, jumps off perfectly good cliffs, and is preparing for the next fear-busting adventure on his bucket list: running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

In this episode of the Over Ask Podcast, he joins Matt Lionetti and The Broke Agent to talk about the We Are The They program, the importance of mindset and personal connections, and the real reason behind his cliff-jumping and other life-threatening activities.

Not so different from real estate

As the leader of The Robert Mack Group, Robert is widely-known as an incredible agent who, in his personal time, confronts fear and does things that would have most people thinking, “There’s no way I could do that.”

He respectfully disagrees.

Matt asked Robert if, after doing something like swimming with sharks, he finds it easier to deal with any real estate situation – however scary it might look at the outset.

Fear begins and ends with the story we tell ourselves. Often, we jump to the worst-case scenario, whether it’s about a client appointment or being surrounded by 15 sharks in the ocean.

But when you actually do things that require you to break through fear, you realize it wasn’t as bad or nearly as bad as what you thought it was going to be. It’s the same with real estate…

We Are the They

Robert works on personal growth in all areas of his life – not just real estate. One way he does this is through his commitment to We Are The They.

Jimmy Rex, the founder of the coaching program We Are The They, went undercover with the Underground Railroad to catch child traffickers. After talking to his girlfriend about his experience, she told him she didn’t want him to be involved anymore. “It’s too dangerous. They can handle it.”

Jimmy’s words: ‘What do you mean they can handle it? Who’s they? We are the they. If we don’t do it, no one’s gonna do it.”

It’s 50 men…and the group is designed to help every member of the group become a better husband, become a better brother, become a better father, become a better business owner, become a better friend, and that’s really what it’s about. It’s about true personal growth.

What are you leaving behind?

One thing Robert wanted to stress was the deeper meaning behind the group and its fear-busting bucket list trips, like cliff-diving in Moab, Utah.

For months leading up to it, Robert was terrified. But as soon as his feet left the rock, all he felt was bliss. But it’s not just about having fun or even about breaking through a metaphorical barrier.

The idea behind the cliff jump was that we all are being held back by one or more things…. When I did my meditation, what was clear to me was I needed to let go of nicotine. That was the one thing holding me back… And that’s why I screamed, ‘F*ck nicotine!’ That was the anchor… I jumped off that cliff and left behind a 27-year nicotine addiction

The power of our thoughts

It’s too easy for many of us to get stuck in our heads and let worst-case scenarios fill our minds and hold us back. Robert Mack knows that as well as anyone. Matt brought up the law of attraction and his belief that we attract what we put out there – energy, attitude, and expectations.

My opinion is we are destined to succeed. The world is in our favor. But most of us repel the abundance because of our mindset.

Business and personal connections

The real estate industry offers plenty to talk about, but the people Robert most enjoys working with are those with whom he shares a personal interest. And the appeal goes both ways.

I do get a lot of clients reaching out and hitting me up and talking about personal stuff, which ends up leading to… ‘I want to list my home with you, because I want to work with somebody that’s committed as you are when you did the Ironman… someone who sets a goal and does everything they possibly can to achieve it.

Robert’s content makes it clear he’s not trying to be someone he’s not. And he’s not afraid to show how scared he is before diving in with each of his bucket list adventures.

Don’t take our word for it, though. Instagram is the best way to connect with Robert and check out his content.
