“What is the dumbest mistake you’ve ever made as a real estate agent?”
The Broke Agent and Agents Anonymous asked that one question in a recent Instagram collab, and agents have already piled on with more than 430 comments.
Two of the most-liked replies took fewer than five words.

The rest of the thread reads like a blooper reel for the business. Here are some of the best stories, grouped by the kind of mess agents got themselves into.

The Wrong House (and the Wrong Buyers)
Several agents admitted to walking into a house that wasn’t theirs, or sending someone else in.

In some cases, the agent told the wrong buyer their offer had been accepted.

Keys, Locks, and Doors
Getting in and out of houses caused its own pile of problems. Some agents got stuck on the wrong side of a door, and others lost track of the key:

Other times, the agent inflicted (unintentional) property damage or let in an animal that likely did the job for them.

Small Misses With Big Consequences
Some of the dumbest mistakes started as a box nobody checked or a line nobody read.
A couple of those misses came out of the agent’s own bank account (or garage):

Showings and open houses brought their own surprises.

A couple of agents learned the hard way that words can’t be taken back.

The VA in VA loan stands for the Department of Veterans Affairs (which by now is probably etched in this agent’s brain).
Every Agent Has One
If you’ve been in this industry long enough, you probably have stories of your own to share, and the comments section is always open.
Why not also share what that experience caused you to do to make sure it never happened again?
Or, better yet, have you turned that dumb (and very human) mistake into content? Do tell. And link to your post in the comments so others can enjoy it, too.
