An NYC luxury real estate agent and popular YouTuber has been charged with attempted murder after a heated altercation with a police officer who stopped him for driving 55 in a 35 mph zone.
The agent, Erik Van Conover, displayed the same combativeness ahead of his arrangement on Monday afternoon, threatening to “eviscerate” anyone who disputed his mental capacity–and claiming the police report on the incident was falsified.
“I could run this myself because I have everything right here, and it’s all been falsified… If anyone dares test my mental competence, I will eviscerate every single person with my intelligence right now. And that’s not being egotistical.”
During his arraignment last week, Conover reportedly described himself as a public figure, mentioning his YouTube account with close to three million subscribers and urging the magistrate to check out his online following.
As of yet, Conover is denying all allegations against him.
What happened?
According to the police report, the officer had been trying to stop Conover for eight miles. Conover finally stopped and the officer used his car to try and block the agent’s Jeep.
The officer then got out of his car and tried to de-escalate the situation, but Conover drove right toward him, hitting him in the leg and throwing him “up to 40 feet” before driving off.
That’s an estimate based on footage from a drone that reportedly caught the whole thing. Police paperwork then says Conover drove off, but another officer followed him for the next 28 miles before police were able to stop the Jeep with spike strips.
The following video provides eye-witness testimony from local roller-blader Keith Wright, who used his Go Pro to record the incident—plus police testimony from Sergeant Brian Moffitt of the Bartlett (New Hampshire) Police Department.
Conover was reportedly arrested Friday night for a separate drunk driving charge, but he had no other criminal charges on his record.
And no, (sadly) this is not satire.
