The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) released its second quarterly update on the 2026-2028 Strategic Plan this week, covering its progress across seven stated priorities.

NAR CEO Nykia Wright framed the update around a simple mandate for the association.

NAR’s responsibility, executed through our Strategic Plan, is to deliver strong advocacy, clear guidance and applicable tools to help you serve your clients, grow your business and lead in your communities.”

Here’s what’s in the update and what it means for your real estate business.

Legal and Advocacy Wins

NAR led passage of what it’s calling the most significant federal housing package in nearly 20 years: the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which became law July 11. The push came through a nationwide advocacy campaign aimed at supply and affordability challenges.

On the legal side, NAR reached a major strategic settlement in the Tuccori homebuyer commission case. The settlement has received preliminary court approval.

If it gets final approval, the Tuccori settlement would protect members, state and local associations, MLSs, and eligible brokerages from potential copycat lawsuits. No new business practice changes would be required.

NAR also secured several court dismissals involving challenges to its membership and MLS structure.

Tools, Transparency & Member Resources

The rest of the update covers what NAR is building and publishing for members directly:

  • MLS guidance: New practical guidance for MLSs and members aimed at increasing clarity around MLS policies. NAR also coordinated industry letters to the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission, and the U.S. Copyright Office in support of a transparent MLS system.
  • Broker resources: New broker-specific tools, advocacy forums, and direct outreach designed to help brokers strengthen operations and generate business.
  • Market intelligence: New data tools meant to help members make more informed business decisions and stay competitive.
  • Governance changes: A new application process aligning member expertise with leadership opportunities, along with a simplified committee structure.
  • Education overhaul: Curriculum improvements driven by stakeholder input and a migration to a new learning management system.

These five areas cover most of the association’s direct work with members this quarter. NAR also outlined what comes next as the plan continues into the second half of the year.

What’s Next

NAR pointed to a few things ahead as this work continues:

  • More role-specific programming at NAR NXT.
  • Launch of the new Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Increased commitment to professionalism.

Wright closed the update with this:

“The goal is simple: clearer information, more useful resources and stronger support to help you run your business and serve your clients in today’s market.”
