April 18th. A date that will live in infamy…at least in my head.
Exactly one year ago to this day Byron Lazine and I officially teamed up to launch BAM. Our goal was to create a new-age real estate media company with the most entertaining, educational, and FUN content in the industry. We knew this venture would not be easy and that we would be in a 24/7/365 content grind that would bring us both to the brink of insanity.
In the first 365 days, we experimented with different shows, blog posts, posting styles, emails, debates, podcasts, ebooks, and virtual events to get a feel for what our audience was looking for. Some of it worked, and a lot of it did not. But today, on our one-year anniversary, I want to highlight BAM’s best moments and reflect on all that we have accomplished.
April 18th, 2022
This was the official launch of “Broke Agent Media” with 18 blogs on the site and five different shows/podcasts. Mondays we had the Over Ask Podcast, Tuesday was The Real World, Wednesday was Between 2 Lock Boxes with Danny Deals, Thursday was The Walk Thru, and Friday was the Byron Lazine Podcast.
We were the first real estate media company (that I know of) to have a show for every day of the week and our goal was to have a unique mix of real estate news, agent tactics, marketing tips, and unfiltered takes from our personalities. We came out the gate swinging with an interview on Byron’s podcast with former Zillow CEO Spencer Rascoff. We went to his house, and Byron got one of the most candid, well-produced interviews Spencer has ever done. While Byron had a deep conversation with this real estate mogul I stood in the parking lot and practiced my golf swing in the reflection of the car window. I’ll never forget that day.
Virtual Events and Debates
At BAM it is our goal to innovate and DISRUPT the space. We want to have conversations that nobody else is having. That’s why our first Live event on YouTube was the infamous debate between Byron Lazine and Ricky Carruth on Paid vs. Free coaching. Things got heated, but it was extremely entertaining, and overall the real estate industry won as a live audience got to watch and comment during the broadcast. The most notable part was when Ricky removed his yelping dog to the laughter of the live viewers.
After doing this debate and getting feedback from the audience, we quickly realized that doing live, virtual events would be a cornerstone of our content. We ended up doing another debate on Agents vs. Appraisers and a couple of Live Cold Calling sessions, one of which had over 1,000 concurrent viewers for a two-hour period.
We also hosted a ton of free webinars to build our legendary email list and provide non-stop free content for all real estate professionals.
Adding Creators and Talent
At BAM we want the best writers, the best editors, the best podcasters, and the best content creators in real estate. That’s why in August we signed Dustin Brohm, aka The Massive Agent, to be our first BAM Creator. I have been listening to Dustin’s podcast and consuming his content for years, and the fact that he is now a part of our brand is incredible.
This was the start of adding on more creators to BAM: Dan Oneil (aka the Captain), Matt Lionetti, Troy Palmquist, Tom Toole, Tom Storey, and Haley Ingram. Click here to get to know the BAM creators. These are truly some of the most talented, respected people in the industry and I couldn’t be happier to have them a part of BAM.
Live IN-PERSON Events
We’re just getting started with these. But, our first attempt at a live event was a party at the Tom Ferry Summit in Dallas. It turned out to be one of the most epic ragers in real estate conference history with a three-hour open bar on a hotel rooftop. We called it BAM Bash.
There were hundreds of agents, with a line out the door. Anyone who was there can attest that it got a little out of control… and that’s exactly what we wanted. We also were lucky enough to have Derrick Gregory film a BAM on the Street at the party and at the conference.
New Year, New BAM
At the start of 2023, our main goals were to move faster. Get more YouTube subscribers, grow our email list, grow the brand.
We did this by adding TWO new shows, the Knowledge Brokers Podcast with Tom Toole, Byron Lazine, and Lisa Chinatti, and of course the Hot Sheet. The Hot Sheet is a live show every weekday that the market is open where Byron goes over the biggest news from the latest 24 hours in the financial and real estate markets. It’s growing an enormous following, and I believe we are also now the first real estate media company to have a daily YouTube live stream.
We also wanted to change the name away from Broke Agent Media. The Broke Agent brand and name were necessary to launch the media company for name recognition, but we wanted our content to be more shareable and not carry the negative connotation people associate with the word “broke.” So, we changed the name to just BAM before the new year.
The Future
It’s hard to predict what BAM will look like at the end of year two, but the one thing I do know is that we are not stopping.
We are going to continue to write blogs, acquire talent, film podcasts, throw events, and post content every single day to entertain and enrich the lives of real estate agents. I can now say that we have created the media company that I wish existed when I was a full-time real estate agent, and I am very proud of that. Darth Byron is proud too… he just won’t say it because we are just getting started.
Thank you to everyone who has consumed our content, attended our events, or engaged with our content in any way. We appreciate all of you.
Now, if you have read this far you have to see what we’ve been working on behind the scenes for the last six months….
I’d like to introduce you to the go-to digital real estate education platform, BAMx. Check it out and become a deeper part of the BAM Community.
