Let’s make a bet.
I bet an accountability partner will spark more motivation in you than you could on your own.
I bet tracking and measuring your KPIs and reporting back to that accountability partner will change your life, increase your bank account, and make creating new habits a heck of a lot more fun.
My friend and killer agent Tiana Ponti Morales sent me a challenge going viral on Instagram, a “75 hard” for business. This challenge requires business owners to complete the following:
- Complete 7 tasks by 11:00 am every morning
- Make 5 new connections per day
- Read 10 pages of a business book per day
- Spend 30 minutes learning every day
- Post at least 3 times per week on a social media platform
The winner gets a Palm Beach spa day (we added this part).
The Power of an Accountability Partner
Tiana presented this to me in summer, the time of year when my prospecting hours are cut the most and I attend the least networking events. I immediately knew that connecting with 5 new people every day would be the toughest part for me. I planned and strategized on where I would find these new five connections, and some days were easy. But many days were not. I am positive that I would have failed multiple days if it were not for the accountability of this challenge and the motivation and encouragement from Tiana.
Not only did we motivate each other to complete the tasks every day, but we served as a sounding board for each other’s progress throughout the challenge, allowing us to refine our tactics, find creative solutions to roadblocks and get feedback from another perspective.
3 Takeaways from the “75 Hard” for Business Challenge
Truth is Tiana will likely get that Palm Beach spa day, but I have no doubt that this challenge has been a win for my business. Here are my three biggest takeaways from this challenge:
#1—Select Your Accountability Partner Wisely
Who you choose matters. Find a like-minded peer with a similar track record and aligned goals. They don’t have to be the same goals, but having the size of those goals in the same ballpark helps. The relationship needs to be mutually beneficial. Both parties need to be committed, reliable, and capable of holding the other accountable when they start slipping.
#2—Set Yourself Up for Success Early On
Having the challenge up and visual will keep the tasks top of mind, enhance motivation, and make progress tracking manageable. We used a Google sheet as a daily checklist.
#3—Aim to Create New Habits
“Consistency is key” does not mean you only have to be consistent. Consistency is just step one. When you are consistent your actions become habits. The true benefits come when you build habits that grow your business and yourself.
Tiana and I are keeping this up, with an upgraded challenge of our own design each quarter. If you’re interested in joining in on our lead-generating fun, shoot Tiana or me a message and let us know!
