In a record-breaking live auction at Sotheby’s New York salesroom, “La Dune,” widely regarded as one of the Hamptons’ most iconic estates, was sold for $88.48 million.

While the estate has two addresses—366 and 376 Gin Lane in the Southampton area of Long Island, New York—both properties went to the same bidder.

With an audience just shy of 100, seven bidders competed in the auction room, on the phone (via a team of specialists), and online, making “La Dune” the most valuable property ever purchased via live auction at Sotheby’s.

Both “La Dune” addresses were offered—individually and collectively—via Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions, the largest luxury real estate marketplace.

Read on for the highlights and to enjoy some jaw-dropping photos of the estate.

Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions hosted the event in collaboration with Harald Grant of Sotheby’s International Realty, Tim Davis of The Corcoran Group, and Cody Vichinsky, President and Founding Partner of Bespoke Real Estate.

The internationally-known luxury real estate firm already held the word record for the most expensive residence sold at auction—and the highest sale price of any U.S. property listed in 2022: a California estate known as “The One,” which sold for $141 million.

“La Dune” was auctioned live at Sotheby’s alongside other luxury properties, as well as art and other luxury items at Sotheby’s as part of a week-long auction and event series, “Visions of America,” to showcase the pinnacle of American craftsmanship.

The auction was streamed live from Sotheby’s New York saleroom on as well as

Other properties were auctioned during the same event, including one in Wellington, Florida—described as the equestrian capital of the world—which sold for $5.04 million in partnership with David Norman of One Sotheby’s International Realty.

Every single one of the lots auctioned sold, with aggregate bids placed totaling $808.25 million.

Sotheby’s Concierge Auctions head auctioneer, Frank Trunzo, conducted the event.
