At the beginning of each month, I make a list of content ideas based on holidays, notable events, and what’s trending. This can help you plan your filming/posting schedule around what’s timely and relevant! As I mentioned in my “trendjacking” blog, posting about relevant topics gives your marketing a major engagement boost. In May, we had Star Wars Day, the only Friday 13th of the year, the Johnny Depp Amber Heard trial, and plenty of chatter about Elon Musk buying Twitter… Here’s what to expect this June.
HOLIDAYS TO LOOK OUT FOR
June is Pride Month 🌈 .
Not much else going on in early June besides complete bullshit like “National Cheese Day” on the 4th. But, June marks the beginning of summer, so you can start tying in some… heat jokes?
(What it’s like putting out open house signs in the heat, doing showings in the heat, coming back to your hot car after a day at inspections, the “hot” market… I dunno you can always educate your audience on how heat affects certain aspects of the house, cool summer spots near your listings, etc). The most important thing is, if you have listing photos with snow in them, take new photos.
Just be concious of the general “summer vibe” around content and the way you articulate your marketing message. Oh, and of course you are obligated to make a “I get so busy the second I go on vacation” joke.
This is an example from our content platform.
June 14th: Flag Day. I’m only putting this here because we all know agents will use this holiday as an excuse to send an insufferable mass email. This is me reminding you to not do this.
June 19th: Father’s Day AKA National Home Inspector’s Day. There will be a flurry of dad inspection jokes, skits and memes on this day like you’ve never seen before. You can be one of them. At this point the joke is definitely played out, but on this day I assume it will perform well.
This is another example from our content platform.
June 19th / June 20th: Juneteenth. June 19th is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865.
June 22nd: National Take Your Cat to Work Day. If you want to scare/concern your clients, bring your cat to showings and let it sneak around. Or, you just stand there and stroke your cat without saying anything.
June 30th: National Work From Home Day. There’s something here about “working from home” in your new house. Maybe you can emphasize home offices and cool “work spots” in your listings.
NOTABLE SPORTING EVENTS
This month we have the NBA finals between the Celtics and the Warriors, the Stanley Cup, the dog days of baseball summer, the US Open for Golf (finishing on Father’s Day), the French Open (tennis) and UFC fights. There will likely be several viral moments in the NBA Finals and maybe the US Open.
THE REAL ESTATE MARKET
Talk about the recent so-called “shift.”
Be the knowledge broker for your clients. I can’t believe I just used that phrase. Talk about the changing rates, the slight rise in inventory, and the economic factors outside of real estate. Are the days of 20+ offers over? Are listing agents actually returning calls now? Talk about what’s happening in your market in a way that doesn’t SCARE your clients. As Tom Toole says,
“You don’t want to freakout your sellers and buyers by just saying how “crazy” the market is.”
POP CULTURE
Johnny Depp just won his trial against Amber Heard, so I’m sure there will be more on that. However, I would have to imagine this dies down in early June because it’s been going on for so long and we’re all sick of hearing about it.
What else… Jack Harlow is the hottest thing on Earth and is now a sex symbol, which is infuriating. He also just released some music with Drake so I’m sure there will be some memable moments from the music video.
Top Gun is obviously the biggest movie on the planet.
Stranger Things Season Four came out…rather quietly I might add. Also, Obi-Wan Kenobi just came out on Disney+.
That’s what I got so far for June! Memes come and go fast, so I’ll try my best to keep you updated.
