Let’s be real, content today can’t just be good

It has to stop the scroll, grab attention, and get viewers to actually stick around for the substance. 

If you’re wondering how to make your next talking head video do exactly that, there’s one small tweak that can literally change it all: the sound effect known as a riser.

Here’s how to make it work for you.

Tip #1: Start With a Strong Hook

The first thing we focus on when creating a talking head video is the dialogue. You need a hook, and ideally, a strong one.

Now, a hook can be visual (like jumping out of a trash can or off a building), but let’s be honest, that’s not always realistic. A verbal hook can be just as effective, and a lot easier to create.

Here’s what we do:

  1. Record your usual talking head video.
  2. Watch it back and look for the two or three words, or one or two sentences, that hit the hardest.
  3. Move that clip to the very beginning of the video.

That small shift makes all the difference. Even if the cold hook doesn’t perfectly connect to your first line, it’s okay because it grabs attention.

Tip #2: Add a “Riser” Sound Effect

Once you’ve got your hook, it’s time to layer in the riser.

A riser is a short, building audio effect that climbs in intensity and then hits the climax right before your video begins. You’ve probably heard it before, it’s that tension-building sound that signals something big is about to happen.

You can find tons of riser effects on CapCut. Just search “riser” and you’ll see plenty of options.

The key is in the timing: Make sure the riser ends exactly when your dialogue begins. That’s how you create that clean, cinematic punch that keeps viewers watching past the first few seconds.

The Real Impact: Elevating Your Content for 2026

Adding risers and cold hooks won’t guarantee your video goes viral, but it will elevate the talking head content you’ve been making for months. These are the kinds of small, intentional changes that separate average content from scroll-stopping content.
