Compass CEO Robert Reffkin announced today that the brokerage is dismissing its lawsuit against Zillow after the portal revised its listing policy.
The decision comes after Zillow introduced two key updates yesterday:
- The launch of “Zillow Preview” to expand visibility of pre-market listings
- An update to its Listing Access Standards
Together, these changes signal a shift toward allowing listings to be marketed more broadly before appearing on Zillow.

Reffkin said the decision to dismiss the lawsuit aligns with Compass’s position on seller choice:
“Our goal has always been to give homeowners more choice to decide when, where, and how to market their homes. We are pleased to see that both other brokerages and portals are now recognizing the strong consumer demand for more options in how they sell their homes.”
The lawsuit had been ongoing since June 2025. In February, a federal judge denied Compass’s request for a preliminary injunction that would have paused Zillow’s listing access standards, allowing the policy to remain in place as the case progressed.
With Zillow now revising its approach, Reffkin confirmed Compass no longer sees a need to continue legal action, stating, “Because of this reversal, we are dismissing our lawsuit against Zillow.”
