Ryan Schneider, who stepped into the role of Anywhere Real Estate CEO in December 2017, has exited the company, following the acquisition by Compass.

While there was no public announcement, Schneider’s updated LinkedIn profile now reflects an end date of January 2026, and Compass confirmed his departure.

Executive changes following the merger

Schneider was not the only senior executive to leave as the deal wrapped. Anywhere’s chief technology officer, Rudy Wolfs, also departed the company after the close. Compass has acknowledged that both exits occurred under the terms outlined in the merger agreement, but has not yet shared details about new leadership appointments.

Compass has not shared specifics around executive severance or transition arrangements tied to the departures of Schneider and Wolfs. The company has also stayed quiet on how leadership responsibilities will be redistributed in the near term.

The Compass–Anywhere Acquistion

The acquisition itself moved faster than originally expected. Compass initially projected a later close, but after clearing antitrust review and receiving shareholder approval, the transaction was finalized in January.

The Compass–Anywhere merger represents one of the largest consolidations the residential real estate industry has seen. Together, the companies now encompass 340,000 real estate professionals, an expected 1.2 million home sales per year, and a portfolio of nationally recognized brokerage brands.

The deal is currently reshaping competitive dynamics, brand independence, and long-term strategy in the industry.
