We pretty much “survived until 2025.”
So how did you do?
Did you crush the year? Did you spend the year complaining about the market? Or maybe you experienced a slower year but used the extra time to grow, sharpen your skills, and plan for the future.
The market might have been challenging, but success isn’t solely defined by transactions or income. It’s about how you lived, how you showed up, and the impact you made. We all have areas we can improve, and the first step is taking an honest look at where we stand.
Just yesterday, I caught a podcast that really hit home. It reminded me that our final score isn’t just about numbers on a spreadsheet. It’s about something deeper. With that in mind, here’s a framework to score your year beyond your transaction count.
1. Relationships: Personal and Professional
Take stock of your relationships. From family and friends to clients and colleagues, ask yourself:
- Are these relationships better or worse than last year?
- Have you made time for loved ones?
- Are your client and agent interactions deepening connections and building a network?
- Are the people you’re spending time with draining or energizing you?
Strong, healthy relationships enrich your life and business. If there’s room for improvement, make prioritizing and nurturing healthy relationships a priority in 2025.
2. Health: Body and Mind
Your health is foundational to everything else. Evaluate the following:
- Have you prioritized a healthy diet and regular exercise?
- Are you feeling more energized or drained compared to last year?
Real estate is a demanding field. Treat your body and mind like the irreplaceable assets they are. If this is a weak spot (it is for me), plan now to build better habits.
3. Financial Smarts
In the typical “rich, poor, rich, poor” roller coaster that is most real estate agents’ income, financial literacy is key. Consider:
- Are you smarter with money than last year?
- Have you improved your budgeting, saving, and investing strategies?
- Have you started tax planning for the year, prioritizing ways to reduce your tax burden?
Your financial health impacts both your personal life and business stability. If you’re not tracking your finances, don’t wait until 2025; start today.
4. Skill Development
Growth demands continual learning. Ask yourself:
- What new skills did you acquire this year?
- Which books did you read, which courses did you take, or which mentors did you learn from?
Investing in your skills is a surefire way to stay competitive and motivated, even in a slow market.
Adapt or die.
5. Business Performance
Hopefully, we all already have our numbers —so let’s use them here.
- How was your transaction volume and sales caliber?
- Did you improve your time management or efficiency?
A good year involves closing deals and refining your operations. Build systems that allow you to work smarter, not harder.
6. Mindset
Your mindset shapes everything:
- Do you approach challenges with a growth or scarcity mindset?
- How did you handle the market pace this year?
A growth mindset turns obstacles into opportunities. If you’ve been stuck in scarcity, start feeding your mind with positivity, whether through books, podcasts, or mentorship.
7. Spirituality and Peace
- What gave you peace and energy this year—prayer, nature, meditation?
- Did you find solace in the face of stress?
Reconnect with whatever helps you feel grounded and resilient. If spirituality isn’t part of your routine, explore what might work for you.
8. Contribution and Giving Back
Giving creates abundance. Ask yourself:
- How did you give back to your community, clients, or peers?
- Have you shared knowledge or resources that have helped you succeed?
Contributing not only helps others but also deepens your skills and offers fulfillment.
9. Experiences
Did you create any great memories this year? Maybe you had an amazing vacation or carved out time to coach your kids’ baseball team. Maybe you invested in yourself and spent the day with the BAM crew before BAM Mania.
Whatever it is, make it count. If not, how can you build more experiences into 2025?
Plan for celebrations, trips, or moments that matter as part of your business strategy. A fulfilled life makes you a better agent.
10. Better Systems for Growth
Lastly, evaluate your systems:
- Did you create processes that make areas 1-9 easier to manage?
- Have you automated, streamlined, or improved your workflows?
Strong systems amplify every other aspect of your life and business. If you don’t have them, 2025 is your year to build.
2024 may have been tough for many agents, but the market doesn’t care. What matters is how you adapt, improve, and grow. Use this list to evaluate your year honestly, celebrate your wins, and set a clear path forward for 2025.
