It seems like real estate agents are everywhere you look online.
But almost nobody is touching the most powerful platform for long-term lead generation.
According to the just-released BAM x ReminderMedia Social Media Report, which surveyed agents across the country about their social media and marketing habits, just 2.3% of agents said they use YouTube as the primary platform for their business.
YouTube is the platform with:
- The second-largest search engine in the world.
- The longest content shelf life of any major social channel.
- Massive consumer demand for real estate content.
And yet, almost no one in the industry is competing for attention there.
Social Platforms Agents Are Actually Using in 2025
When asked which social platform they use most for their business, agents answered:
- Facebook: 46.70%
- Instagram:41.63%
- LinkedIn: 2.76%
- YouTube: 2.30%
- TikTok: 0.92%
- X (Twitter): 0.77%
- Other: 5%
Two platforms dominate the industry’s attention. Everything else is almost nonexistent.
That’s why the 2.3% YouTube number stands out. It’s a wide-open lane for agents who want less noise and more space to own their market.
The Disconnect Between Agents and Consumers
The 20205 NextGen Homebuyer Report makes the gap even more glaring.
Two-thirds of buyers (66%) use YouTube to learn about buying a home, and that number increases for Gen Z (74%). Across all age groups, YouTube ranks as the number one educational platform for homebuyers, beating out online courses and podcasts.
Buyers are already searching for neighborhood tours, market updates, and “how to buy” explainers on YouTube. They’re making decisions about which agents they trust before they ever reach out. And in most markets, there’s a very good chance your competitors aren’t even in the room.
Why Agents Avoid Video
Video can be intimidating. In the BAM x ReminderMedia report, nearly half of agents (47.1%) said video is their biggest struggle. Consistency is another challenge, with only 18% posting daily on social media.
But here’s the thing: those same roadblocks are exactly what make YouTube such a big opportunity. When everyone else avoids the work, the field stays wide open for the ones who show up. And on YouTube, a single well-made video can keep generating views, leads, and authority long after you publish it.
