Housing Affordability Remains Strained In Nearly Every U.S. Housing Market | March 30, 2026

On today’s Hot Sheet, Byron Lazine discussed housing inventory data, housing affordability for the first quarter of 2026, and population & migration trends for 2011 to 2025….

On today’s Hot Sheet, Byron Lazine broke down Logan Mohtashami’s Weekly Market Tracker showing housing demand is still holding but losing momentum, with weekly pending sales at 70,209 compared to 69,183 last year, purchase applications up just 5% year over year, and inventory climbing to 713,549 as mortgage rates hit 6.64%.

He also unpacked ATTOM’s Q1 2026 report showing affordability remains historically strained, with 97% of U.S. counties less affordable than their long-term averages.

For today’s third topic, Byron  reviewed U.S. Census Bureau data showing population growth slowed across much of the country from 2024 to 2025, with many major counties seeing sharp slowdowns or outright declines tied to falling net international migration.
