If you’ve been following me and BAM for a while, you know I am obsessed with trendjacking because it gives my content rocket fuel.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the term, here’s the definition:

Trendjacking is the practice of leveraging trending topics, events, or viral moments to create relevant and timely content that boosts engagement, visibility, and brand awareness. It allows businesses, influencers, and marketers to insert themselves into conversations that are already gaining traction.

I’ve written about this before, but there are so many ways to trendjack that I want to refresh your thinking with six key ways.

1. Pop Culture Trends

This is probably the most obvious form of trendjacking. What’s happening right now in music, TV, movies, fashion, and sports? Think about current shows, major sporting events, or viral pop culture moments. Examples might include Severance, The White Lotus, or the Final Four.

2. News

This is one of the most effective ways to trendjack. As a media company, it’s literally our job, but for real estate agents, this is a great way to generate shares and engagement.

What causes shares? New information. If you are the first to break or deliver relevant news to your audience, you will be rewarded with more engagement.

Use local green screens or simple headline posts to do this effectively. For example, yesterday, mortgage rates dropped to their lowest level of 2025. If you aren’t trendjacking that news, you’re missing an opportunity.

We have templates for this in our Skool community, and BAMx members can also easily use our headline posts to format and highlight local market updates.

3. The Weather

It might sound simple, but you can even trendjack the weather. If it’s a beautiful weekend in your market, talk about the best local spots to visit when it’s 70 and sunny. Anytime you make your content feel timely and in the moment, it becomes more relevant and engaging, like this one from @moving_to_kc:

Just launched this week: hyper-local meme templates for agents to customize in our BAMx Skool community.

4. Post Style Trends

Make sure you are consuming content to see HOW people are posting!

Right now, everyone is creating AI-generated action figure versions of themselves. This is an example of trendjacking a post style.

If you want to create your own, here’s howK

  1. Update your ChatGPT app.
  2. Use this prompt:
Create a toy of the person in the photo. Let it be an action figure. Next to the figure, there should be [accessories], [accessories], [accessories], and [accessories]. At the top of the box, write “[WORDING]” and underneath it, “[Sub wording].” Visualize this in a realistic way. Make the blister pack with a [custom] theme.

5. Trending Audio

If you’ve been scrolling Instagram or TikTok recently, you’ve probably heard the viral “Anxiety” song on every damn post! This is an example of a trending audio that you can use in your content.

6. The Calendar

This is your most consistent way to trendjack. Every month, look at the calendar for upcoming events or check out my monthly content ideas blog on the first of each month. Pay attention to both real and made-up holidays for inspiration.

For example:

April 11: National Pet Day—great for hyper-local content about the best dog-friendly spots in your area.

April 10-13: The Masters—a tradition unlike any other.

April 20: Easter and 4/20—two very different celebrations (LOL) both worth acknowledging in creative ways.

Staying on top of trends is how The Broke Agent account has survived and thrived for ten years. It’s the key to remaining relevant and fresh with your content.

If you want to stop worrying about this sort of stuff, check out our BAMx Skool community, where we GIVE you the content and ideas every week so you don’t even have to think about it. Get in there ASAP!
