ChatGPT is far more likely to cite some types of content than others.

According to HubSpot’s new State of AEO in 2026 report, comparison content earns a 95% citation rate on ChatGPT, the highest of any format tracked. Traditional blog posts and informative articles sit at 69%, the lowest rate on the platform.

But that doesn’t mean real estate agents should stop blogging. Other answer engines show a very different pattern.

Here’s what ChatGPT is most likely to cite, how it differs from Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, and Gemini, and what agents should add to their content strategy.

What The Report Covers

HubSpot pulled this data from Xfunnel’s LLM citation database, tracking citations from December 2025 through March 2026.

The analysis covers six major answer engines, including:

  • ChatGPT
  • Claude
  • Perplexity
  • Gemini
  • Google AI Overviews

Section 05 of the report, “What Answer Engines Cite,” breaks down citation rates by content type across each platform.

That breakdown is where this gets useful for agents building content right now.

Where Blog Posts Fall Short On ChatGPT

Comparison content (blog or non-blog) hits 95% citation on ChatGPT, the highest rate of any format the report tracked on that platform.

Other blog posts and informative articles sit at 69% on ChatGPT. That’s the lowest citation rate of any content type on the platform.

Several other formats also outperform blog posts on ChatGPT:

  • Product listings: 86%
  • Listicles: 86%
  • Documentation and resources: 86%
  • User reviews: 90%
  • PR: 92%

Non-comparison and non-listicle blog posts and informative articles stand out on ChatGPT for the wrong reason. Every other format the report tracked cites at a higher rate on that platform.

Why This Isn’t A Blanket “Ditch Blog Posts” Story

ChatGPT tells one part of the story. On Google AI Overviews, “blog posts/informative articles” hit 42% citation compared to comparison content’s 24%.

Perplexity and Gemini show the same pattern:

  • Perplexity: blog posts cite at 80%, comparison content at 68%.
  • Gemini: blog posts reach 76% citation, comparison content reaches 64%

Blog posts are the strongest format across AI Overview, Perplexity, and Gemini. ChatGPT is the one platform where comparison content and several other formats pull ahead.

As for user reviews, the citation rate is highest for ChatGPT at 90%, followed by:

  • Perplexity: 60%
  • Gemini: 46%
  • AI Overview: 15%

And for listicles (blog or non-blog), ChatGPT’s citation rates also put them at the top at 86%, followed by:

  • Perplexity: 77%
  • Gemini: 66%
  • AI Overview: 35%

Section 5 did not include citation rates for Claude AI.

What Agents Should Build Instead

Real estate agents who want stronger ChatGPT visibility can start restructuring some content around comparisons and structured listings, without dropping blog posts from the mix.

  • Neighborhood comparisons: this ZIP versus that ZIP, broken out by price, inventory, and days on market
  • Structured listing pages for active inventory, built the way product listing pages are structured
  • Listicles built around local market questions, like “5 [Neighborhood] Listings Under $400,000 This Month”

Keep blog posts running for AI Overview and Perplexity visibility. Layer in comparison and listing formats because ChatGPT rewards them at a different rate entirely.

Here’s the move for this week: pick one blog post scheduled to go out and build a comparison or listing-style version to run alongside it.

Agents who build for how each platform cites content, rather than guessing off a single stat, put themselves in position to show up in more places as answer engines keep shaping how buyers and sellers find information.
