Key Details:

  • Buyers and renters on Zillow can now search for their ideal home the same way they would describe it to a friend, including features like location, layout, style, condition, lifestyle, etc.
  • Zillow is the first real estate platform to adopt an AI natural-language search engine, which is currently available on Apple devices and coming soon to the Android app.

Zillow app users can now use an AI natural-language search engine to find their next for-sale or for-rent home by describing it the same way they would to a friend—or a Google search.

So, instead of ticking a series of boxes for the features they want, users can simply type in a description that includes features like location, layout, style, condition, lifestyle, etc.

People love AI that makes life easier for them—just take a look at how much noise ChatGPT is creating. Zillow is now the first real estate platform to adopt this natural-language technology, which is currently available on Apple devices and coming soon to the Android app and Zillow.com.

Here’s what you need to know.

Zillow’s AI-powered natural language search

Home shoppers can type phrases like “$400K homes near me with three bedrooms” right into the Zillow search bar rather than starting with a location and using one filter after another to narrow their search.

They can also save their searches and enable Zillow to notify them when new qualifying properties go on the market.

Beyond easy-to-filter criteria like bedrooms and bathrooms, buyers are considering many other specific features that match their unique lifestyle. This new tool is a game changer for home shopping, because it helps shorten the sometimes long and stressful house-hunting process by creating an easy, more modern way to search, and it delivers relevant search results in a simple, uncluttered way.

The natural language search takes user queries and scans millions of listing details to generate a list of relevant results. At the same time, the feature’s machine learning capability enables it to adapt and continually improve its response to search queries using human-like sentences.

Leading with AI and machine learning

Zillow is the first major residential real estate marketplace to offer this AI-powered search engine, providing buyers and renters with the most advanced home shopping experience.

Add it to the growing list of Zillow’s most impactful features, many of which are powered by AI and machine learning—from the Neural Zestimate® valuation to personalized home recommendations to AI-generated floor plans based on panoramic photos.

Investing in tech innovation like AI is part of Zillow’s vision to create the “housing super app,” which would bring together all the tasks and services related to moving into one digital (and portable) ecosystem of connected solutions.

The future of real estate will be powered through AI. We are proud to be the first in the industry to offer this smarter way to search, and excited to see how it learns and evolves to help each Zillow shopper find their perfect home.
