Need a fresh start?
Instagram’s Adam Mosseri announced a new feature that will soon roll out—a full algorithm reset for your recommendations.
What is the Recommendation Reset?
Instagram’s recommendation algorithm determines what content you see on your Explore page, home feed and Reels tab. And let’s face it—we’ve all complained about the content that pops up on our feeds.
That’s where the new reset feature comes in. It will allow users to effectively clear personalized recommendations and start fresh. The reset option is designed for those who feel like their feed no longer reflects their current interests, and is part of Meta’s broader efforts to enhance user experience—especially for teenagers—amid concerns about the platform’s impact on mental health.
Mosseri explained that the new feature isn’t meant for frequent use, but can help you regain control over your IG experience when things feel off track.
Once launched, you’ll be able to go into your content preferences and reset your recommendations across Instagram.

Early Reactions
Some, like Gary Vee, have no problem with their current recommendations:

One commenter made it clear that the algorithm reset has to do with what users see—not what they share. So, content creators don’t need to worry that using this feature will impact the reach for their Instagram posts.
Mosseri also talked about what users can expect when they use the new feature:
Now, I want to be clear, this is a big thing to do. It’s going to make your Instagram much less interesting at first, because we’re going to treat you as if we know nothing about you and your interests. And it’ll take us some time to learn those again. So, it’s not something I recommend doing all the time. But if you do end up in a place where you really don’t feel great about your experience, this gives you an out.
More than one comment asked for a return to a chronological timeline, with some saying they’re tired of seeing mostly suggested content and little content from the people they actually follow.
So, will you use this new feature? Head on over to Instagram to share your thoughts.
