HomeServices of America, a leading real estate brokerage and homeownership services provider under the Berkshire Hathaway umbrella, is entering a new chapter.

Gino Blefari, who has served as President and CEO since 2019, is stepping down from the top role, effective immediately. He will now serve as Chairman Emeritus, continuing in a strategic advisory capacity.

Taking the reins as President and CEO is Chris Kelly, the company’s Executive Vice President and a longtime HomeServices insider, who’s also a ranking executive in this year’s Real Estate Almanac

Chris Kelly Named New President and CEO

Kelly brings more than two decades of real estate industry experience, starting out as a real estate and finance attorney. He joined HomeServices in 2007 as General Counsel at ReeceNichols and later served as President and CEO of the Ebby Halliday Companies in North Texas.

In his first statement as the new CEO, Kelly emphasized the company’s people-first approach:

“The true strength of HomeServices has always been our people and the incredible leadership team across our companies. I am incredibly humbled to step into this role following Gino Blefari, an industry icon, and to partner with our team to continue driving what makes HomeServices so unique—our position as the preeminent full-service real estate brokerage. Across brokerage, mortgage, title, insurance and franchise, our professionals are the very best in the business. Our mission is simple: to support them in every way possible as they serve their clients and communities. We have no doubts about having the most professional, focused team in the industry, and we look forward to working together to shape the future of real estate.”

What’s Next for HomeServices?

While Blefari’s move signals a changing of the guard, he’s not stepping away entirely. His advisory role will include guiding the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices franchise network as it looks to expand—a clear indicator that HomeServices is planning for future growth.

In a news release, Blefari reflected on his years as the company’s CEO:

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as President and CEO of HomeServices of America. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and the exceptional team we have built. I look forward to supporting our new leadership team as they lead HomeServices into its next chapter of growth, innovation, and continued industry leadership.”
