At the beginning of each month, The Broke Agent makes a list of content ideas based on holidays, notable events, and what’s trending. Here’s what to expect this December.

At the beginning of each month, I make a list of content ideas based on holidays, notable events, and what’s trending. This can help you plan your filming/posting schedule around what’s timely and relevant! As I mentioned in my trendjacking blog, posting about relevant topics gives your marketing a major engagement boost. December is one of the best months to trendjack and to double down on content while other agents mail it in until the new year!

HOLIDAYS

December 18th -26th: Hanukkah. BTW, there are three (maybe more?) ways to spell Chanukah so don’t have an aneurysm when you’re sending out your holiday e-blasts. As a Jew, I just want to say how great it is that Hannukkah (notice I’ve already spelled it differently three times) is finally around Christmas this year! The Hebrew calendar is a luni-solar calendar, so Hannukah always falls on the 25th day of Kislev, but that can be anytime between late November and December. This used to infuriate me as a kid, sometimes celebrating weeks before “winter break” which would prevent me from going full holiday mode. Nothing worse than getting a book on the 6th night and then just going to school the next day. Anyway, from a content perspective it’s probably best to avoid any sort of generic holiday template post. Those get horrible engagement and do nothing for no one. I go deeper on this in my What Agents Should NEVER Post To Instagram Video. Here’s a snippet:

December 24th: Christmas Eve.

December 25th: Christmas.

December 26th – January 1st: Kwanzaa.

In general, the holidays are a great time to show what you’re doing from a non real estate perspective. If you’re doing pop bys, throwing events, or giving out gifts, document some of it and share it on social. As I’ve said before, the holidays are the best time to show your family traditions and connect with your clients/followers on a more personal level as they can see a different side of you.

More specifically, there is endless holiday content to trendjack from. Do a “Real Estate Naughty List” and make a list of all of your grievances. Don’t do anything about your clients of course, but get specific about other agents, frozen lock boxes, or neighbors who come into your open and talk your year off. This can be a Reel or a feed post like how we have here in our December Content

On the Flip side you can do a “Nice List” and mention all your clients, everyone who leaves you warm reviews, agents who answer the phone immediately, etc.

You can start a video with a clever hook like, ‘This is who I want to give lumps of coal to.” Then you can list stuff like The Fed or agents who say “Date The House, Marry The Rate.”

12 Days of Christmas series: For 12 days you can do a consistent video series, maybe something charitable.

December 31st: New Year Eve. You can make a joke here about getting ready to reach out to all the clients that said they wanted to “Wait until the new year.”

NYE is also always consistently the most disappointing night of the year. Make some comparisons about guaranteed disappointments in real estate.

Again, the holidays are a time to double down on content and stand out from the competition. Watch BAM’s “Explode Your Digital Brand Through the Holidays” series as we dive deeper on exactly how to approach holiday content. Find all the blogs here

My favorite tip from the webinar is to send your clients personal videos or audio messages through Instagram for the holidays. That way they don’t feel bothered by texts, can respond when they want, and it juices the algorithm with engagement in your DMs. Genius.

NOTABLE SPORTING EVENTS

The World Cup is entering the knockout stages.

The NFL enters its final weeks before the playoffs.

It’s Bowl Season in College Football.

The NBA becomes relevant again on Christmas Day.

College basketball enters conference play.

THE REAL ESTATE MARKET

Video ideas about the market for the holidays: Answer the most common questions you get asked.

  • Is it true December is a great month to home shop because of less buyer competition?
  • Should sellers go through with their normal holiday decorations?
  • Is it better to wait until the new year to sell?
  • Keep your clients updated with the ever-changing rate situation.
  • Continue to use the Green Screen feature to talk about the local and national market using article headlines as the hook.

POP CULTURE/MOVIES

Spotify Wrapped: Spotify wrapped dropped on Wednesday for most users, meaning you’ll be flooded with the music breakdowns of everyone you’ve ever met. Even though everyone likes to make fun of this and pretend like they don’t care… they DO CARE. It IS interesting to see what people listen to and you should share yours. It will get good engagement because people like getting a deeper understanding of your personality.

Avatar II: After nearly 12 years in the making, the sequel to the wildly popular James Cameron film is finally hitting theaters. There’s a ton of buzz about this film, and there will be a ton of memes and clips about it because I bet it’s going to be terrible. Not sure how to relate this to real estate but there might be some good trending audios out of it.

December 15th: The Mean One Grinch horror movie comes out and the trailer looks insane. I’m sure there will be some viral memes from it.

Twitter: Will it get deleted from the Apple app store? The controversy surrounding Elon Musk and his acquisition of Twitter seems to make headlines every day.

White Lotus Season 2: White Lotus is still airing weekly episodes on HBO for most of December, so watch if you haven’t, and check out some of the most meme-able moments here. This show is incredible.

TIKTOK SOUNDS & TRENDS

#1– Moments That Have Altered My Brain Chemistry
This wildly popular and hilarious trend is one I haven’t seen used by an agent yet. Pro Tip: use the photo mode option when making your own version so viewers can swipe through at their own pace.

#3– Fletcher Quimby
For reasons beyond my control, this kid from the hit TV show Ant Farm has gone completely viral, and TikTok users are using his image as a meme.
