As a real estate agent who uses video to fuel their business, I’ve learned that I’m as much a copywriter as I am a content creator. Whether it’s crafting captions for Instagram, writing email subject lines, or drafting blog titles, strong copywriting is essential to connecting with your audience.

This week, I want to break down six practical tips I use to write better captions and copy for all our real estate marketing content.

6 Tips for Better Real Estate Copywriting

#1: A/B Testing

A/B testing is a simple but powerful way to refine your email marketing strategy. Here’s how it works: create two versions of the same email, but tweak the subject lines slightly to test which one performs better.

For example, you could send one group an email with the subject line, “How to Sell a House This Winter,” and another group the subject line,How to Sell Your Home Over the Holiday Season.”

By comparing open rates and click-through rates, you’ll gain valuable insights into what resonates most with your audience. Over time, this data helps you write more effective subject lines that capture attention and drive action.

I personally use Mailchimp for A/B testing, but most email marketing platforms—like Constant Contact or ActiveCampaign—offer this feature. It’s an easy step that yields big results.

#2: Read Your Copy Out Loud

I get it—reading your Instagram caption out loud in a busy office might feel a little awkward. But here’s the reality: hearing your words spoken aloud helps you catch awkward phrasing, typos, or parts that don’t flow naturally–or just don’t sound like you.

Pro tip: Your copy should sound conversational. Formal writing often creates a disconnect, especially on platforms like Instagram, where authenticity matters most.

If it doesn’t sound like something you’d say in real life, rework it until it does.

If possible, read your captions to a colleague or a friend. Their reactions might highlight areas where your tone or message could be clearer. This small habit can make a big difference in how your audience engages with your content.

#3 Create 3 Versions of Your Subject Lines

When brainstorming subject lines for emails or titles for blogs, always aim to create at least three variations. This forces you to think critically and explore different angles before settling on the strongest option.

For example, if your blog is about selling homes in winter, you could try these:

  1. “How to Sell Your Home This Winter Without Stress”
  2. “Winter Selling Secrets Every Homeowner Should Know”
  3. “Selling Your Home in Winter: A Complete Guide”

A little bonus tip: The ideal email subject line contains nine or fewer words. Keep it short, snappy, and focused.
