One of my friends recently called me a Type A person, and I started laughing immediately.
I am as Type B as you can get. I drive a black Suburban. My kids are feral. I drink way too much caffeine. There’s always a load of unfolded laundry on my couch. If you know, you know.
But here’s the thing: if you looked at my business, you’d swear I was Type A. That’s not natural, it’s built.
The only reason I can be successful in real estate, stay sane, and still show up for my family is because I’ve locked in three systems that force accountability and keep me productive.
1. The Calendar as Law
I don’t just “use” my calendar. I live by it.
- Color coding keeps me sane. Non-negotiables like client appointments or kid responsibilities get their own color, so I know instantly what can move and what can’t.
- Everything gets a block. From income-generating activities to practicing lacrosse with my kid, if it matters, it lives on my calendar.
- Flexibility without chaos. If something shifts, I don’t have a meltdown or let someone else control my entire day. I move the block and still get it done. That’s dynamic prioritization.
- Open space has a role. If my calendar shows white space, I’m in mom mode, typically still catching texts and emails because, well, real estate never stops.
Hard truth: I’ve had days where I treated my calendar like a wish list. It’s the worst. Having a plan and not executing it is just as bad as having no plan at all. Maybe worse.
The most important thing to remember is that your calendar only works if you actually follow it.
2. Pipeline Goals
My goal is simple. Zero days with no pending deals. The rich-poor roller coaster of real estate is not for me.
The only way to do that is to keep the pipeline full. For me, that means 30 prospects in play at all times. That’s my gut check number.
Here’s how I track it. Twice a week, my assistant and I run through leads in the CRM. She takes notes, I dump updates and make decisions, and we leave with an action list. I also keep a spreadsheet with all my numbers, transactions, and prospects that I look at every day. It gives me a quick pulse on where I stand and keeps me from drifting.
If I dip below the number, like I am right now, I shift hard into outreach. If I’m above it, I lean into nurturing.
This one system has saved me from huge months followed by nothing.
3. Weekly Reset
The “Sunday scaries” are also not for me. The worst feeling is starting Monday already behind. So I reset every Sunday night. It’s 30 minutes that saves me hours of stress.
Here’s what it looks like:
- Look back. I start with my calendar from last week. Did I miss anything? What wins do I want to repeat? What losses do I need to adjust for?
- Look ahead. I check the week in front of me. Does my calendar make sense? Are all obligations accounted for? Do I have any free time to get to that laundry on my couch?
- Prep the work. I map out the marketing tasks, client touches, and posts that need to be executed and make sure the execution is time-blocked in my calendar so I’m not scrambling midweek.
- Numbers check. I review my spreadsheet with transactions, prospects, and goals to see where I stand and what needs attention. I love numbers. If they’re good, they motivate me. If they’re bad, they motivate me. Either way, they tell me exactly what kind of week I’m walking into.
By the time I’m done, I know what matters, what’s scheduled, and what numbers I need to hit. That’s what lets me walk into Monday confident and ready to execute.
So no, I’m not Type A. My life is messy, my kids are barefoot half the time, and I thrive in the chaos. And these systems are the only reason I look like I have it all together when it counts.
And here is the thing: the systems do not care what type you are. They will work for you if you work them. And because of that, I am not just productive. I am happy and having fun in real estate, even in 2025.
