The nutshell version: Instagram Live Producer is now available to all professional IG accounts.

What does this mean?

In case you’re reading this and thinking, “What even IS Instagram Live Producer?” here’s a short description right from the source:

“Instagram Live Producer gives broadcasters access to production tools outside of Instagram’s camera, including additional cameras, external microphones, and graphics. This feature is only available on desktop via”

Right now, if you’re on a professional Instagram account, you can go live on the platform using streaming software like OBS or Streamlabs using a stream key.

Read on to find out how.

How does it work?

Here are the steps to going live on Instagram using Instagram Live Producer:

  1. Head over to to get your stream URL and key—under the Create menu—for your streaming software of choice.
  2. Once you’ve set up your stream and have it looking the way you want, start it on your streaming software.
  3. On, the Live Producer viewer will show a preview of what your stream will look like on Instagram Live.
  4. Once you’ve seen and confirmed your IG Live preview, click “Go Live” within Live Producer to start the stream. Once you’re live, the “Comments” tab will allow you to read and respond to comments from your viewers.
  5. When you’re ready to end the live video, click “End live video.”

That’s it.

First Instagram Live?

So, if you’re not in the habit of livestreaming to your Instagram audience, how do you take advantage of this update even if you don’t already have a genius idea for a livestream?

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Depending on your target audience, invite your followers to an Instagram Live where you’ll answer any questions they have about [your topic here].
  • Do the same for an Instagram Live where you describe a harrowing experience as a new real estate agent that changed your perspective (or that changed something else).
  • Ditto—but this time, you’re hosting an IG Live where you announce the winner of a drawing or a quiz you shared in an earlier post—and tell them what they’ve won.

If you’re reading this post, you’re plenty brilliant enough to add to this list with ideas your particular audience will love.
